Runners of the month - 2021 – Year Winners

What a year Farny had.

Incredible progress and consistency brings results.

Astounding times achieved progressing from a 2hr plus half marathon time to running a 1:28 at the Liverpool RNR marathon.

A 3:11 marathon time achieved at Chester in October was simply superb.

Well done Farny. Keep up the hard work.

A superb year’s work from Charlotte.

Having started the year as a relatively new runner, Charlotte kept consistent throughout 2021 and made some fantastic progress.

Turning up week in and week out brings results.

Every PB was set and broken time and again across all distances.

A great example to all runners at the club. Well done Charlotte.

Considering I only started taking running more serious less than a year ago, the Marsh Lane Harriers have got me to a place I never thought i'd be in in such a short space of time and the whole group support each other through it all! This amazing running group is headed up by two of the best. The track sessions and long runs are great as a group and it makes you want to get out, get fit and get it done. Highly recommend to all who want to get involved.

Being a part of this club has improved more than my fitness. MLH has allowed me to be consistently motivated while interacting with a community of likeminded people. There are no judgements or comparisons. I’ve never known support like it and I am so thankful to be a part of this movement.

I joined the club back in the summer and never looked back. I have been running for years, but I never ever fancied a running club. Best thing I ever did was to go down that track for the first time (chaffers). Everyone one was so welcome and Michael Powell was so professional (coach). The best thing about the club everyone is the same. No one better than anyone else. We are all treated the same. We all just want to push each other and better ourselves. Michael Powell and John Carragher have done unbelievable since day one. The hard work they have put into the club is great. What they have done for the community is brilliant. Just what you need now. Especially with what has happened in the past year. Everyone is welcome as well men, women and kids. All families are welcome to this club. Run, walk or talk - Marsh Lane Harriers are here to help. The events I will be running for the Harriers this year are the 5 marathons!!! Up the Harriers!!!! Wooooooo!!!!!

Before joiningΒ  the Marsh Lane Harriers I was plodding round half marathons in around 2 hours 20 mins. I bumped into some of the lads at the Crosby Parkrun and they told me about the club and finally in May I got involved. The community of people have encouraged me to achieve things I never thought I could. I have set goals for races that I would have never in a million years have thought was possible. But much more than that I have made and will continue to make life long friendships with so many unbelievable people.

Joining MLH was the positive change in my life that I never knew I needed. As a father to my 3 year old son, I β€˜never had the time’ to run. But that changed once I joined. I now make time, be it 5am in the morning on Sunday or 10pm in the evening of a Friday. Get your trainers on, get out there and join this great club - It’ll be the best thing you ever do. No egos, no judgement just pure encouragement, motivation and support from a community of likeminded people.

Before I joined the MLH at the start of Lockdown 3.0 in November, my furthest run in my 34 years existence was a 10k which i did in lockdown 1.0! If you'd said to me back then that i'd have ran an official half marathon at aintree, run 10+ miles every Sunday morning and i'd sign up for a marathon, i'd have said you're having a laugh!! The supportive nature and encouragement of everyone involved, led by Mick and John, just pushes you to levels you never thought possible. I joined to keep myself fit, now i want to do some serious running!!

I joined the harriers nearly 12 months ago and not only has it helped my fitness it's really helped my mental health during these strange times. Getting out regularly and meeting up with people I've known for years and meeting new people for a run has been really beneficial. I think John and Powelly have done a great job getting this going. Hopefully it continues to grow and grow.

The Marsh Lane Harriers have helped me and my girlfriend massively with our running. At first we got on board just to help our fitness but that soon developed into a love for running and even more so, a love for our friends and the MLH community as a whole. We went from never running at all, to now running almost every day and proud to be a part of such an amazing gang of people.

Unbelievable club to be a part of, nothing but support from everyone involved. You’ll make a lot of new mates while helping each other reach goals you never believed you could.

I've been running since 2015, since then & even as a kid I never wanted to get involved with running clubs. My own preconception was a bit of an Elitist environment, running snobs & cliquey, reinforced by the attitude of lads I knew as a kid who were decent runners. Also since 2015, I know a few lads who went out with some triathlon clubs & local running clubs and advised me that they were very cliquey, nobody would make an effort to welcome you & generally a bit up themselves. Also the training sessions can be based around the needs of one or two individuals. Although obviously I can make my own mind up I do trust the judgement of my mates. Anyway a lad I know, Chris, messaged me to say John Carra & Powelly had started up MLH & were doing sessions at Chaffers & weekend club runs etc. I decided to go down & take my kids too (who were nervous about the same snobbery I used to hate) & it was & is great. Powelly came over to say hello etc, no egos, no clique, no snobs, just decent people, different levels of runners all there to improve mental and physical health & train. You soon get to know everyone & even sooner you won't be able to run anywhere without another Harrier seeing you out. The club caters for all levels of runners, all ages & all distances from track work to ultra, race days & charity events. Go and try other running clubs & then try the Marsh Lane Harriers.

Since joining the Marsh Lane Harriers in September 2020, my running has improved no end, with my sights now set on a sub 3hr marathon at London 2021. I have said before that the Marsh Lane Harriers is like a motivation station, the lads and girls all share one goal which is to make ourselves better, we have a such a wide range of experience and ability but the support we show one another is constant.

Running has had such a positive effect on both my physical and mental health over the course of the past 7 months. The Marsh lane harriers is such a fantastic local running club and it fills me with pride being a part of the team, it is without a doubt the best club I’ve ever got involved with. A personal highlight for me, was running my first full marathon in December 2020 with a great group of lads, without the help and support of the club this wouldn’t have been possible.
