How do I Join?
Please contact us using the form at the bottom of this page. We'll then be in touch to set you up as a full member of the Marsh Lane Harriers.
How much does it cost?
£10 per month covers your membership and includes all sessions or alternatively you can pay on the day at £2 per session. The group Sunday runs are at no additional cost.
I'm unfit and worried I'm too slow. Can I still join?
At MLH we accept members of all standards. No-one is too slow. We all have different goals and journeys and you are likely to find other runners in exactly the same place as you. Come along and get involved and start working towards your health and fitness goals in a friendly and caring environment.
Training
Are you still training during the Covid pandemic?
Group sessions are unfortunately not possible at this time but they will return soon. Our management team are working hard to provide support to members during this difficult period and the #MLHvirtualrunclub provides encouragement in a virtual team environment. Our weekly training plans may well be solitary or in small groups for now but you'll not be short of support until the time comes when we can all train together again.
How often is training?
You can train as much or as little as you like but we offer group sessions on a Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday and structured workouts you can carry out on your own during the rest of the week.

Considering I only started taking running more serious less than a year ago, the Marsh Lane Harriers have got me to a place I never thought i'd be in in such a short space of time and the whole group support each other through it all! This amazing running group is headed up by two of the best. The track sessions and long runs are great as a group and it makes you want to get out, get fit and get it done. Highly recommend to all who want to get involved.

Being a part of this club has improved more than my fitness. MLH has allowed me to be consistently motivated while interacting with a community of likeminded people. There are no judgements or comparisons. I’ve never known support like it and I am so thankful to be a part of this movement.

I joined the club back in the summer and never looked back. I have been running for years, but I never ever fancied a running club. Best thing I ever did was to go down that track for the first time (chaffers). Everyone one was so welcome and Michael Powell was so professional (coach). The best thing about the club everyone is the same. No one better than anyone else. We are all treated the same. We all just want to push each other and better ourselves. Michael Powell and John Carragher have done unbelievable since day one. The hard work they have put into the club is great. What they have done for the community is brilliant. Just what you need now. Especially with what has happened in the past year. Everyone is welcome as well men, women and kids. All families are welcome to this club. Run, walk or talk - Marsh Lane Harriers are here to help. The events I will be running for the Harriers this year are the 5 marathons!!! Up the Harriers!!!! Wooooooo!!!!!

Chris Blackburn

Before joining  the Marsh Lane Harriers I was plodding round half marathons in around 2 hours 20 mins. I bumped into some of the lads at the Crosby Parkrun and they told me about the club and finally in May I got involved. The community of people have encouraged me to achieve things I never thought I could. I have set goals for races that I would have never in a million years have thought was possible. But much more than that I have made and will continue to make life long friendships with so many unbelievable people.

Joining MLH was the positive change in my life that I never knew I needed. As a father to my 3 year old son, I ‘never had the time’ to run. But that changed once I joined. I now make time, be it 5am in the morning on Sunday or 10pm in the evening of a Friday. Get your trainers on, get out there and join this great club - It’ll be the best thing you ever do. No egos, no judgement just pure encouragement, motivation and support from a community of likeminded people.

Before I joined the MLH at the start of Lockdown 3.0 in November, my furthest run in my 34 years existence was a 10k which i did in lockdown 1.0! If you'd said to me back then that i'd have ran an official half marathon at aintree, run 10+ miles every Sunday morning and i'd sign up for a marathon, i'd have said you're having a laugh!! The supportive nature and encouragement of everyone involved, led by Mick and John, just pushes you to levels you never thought possible. I joined to keep myself fit, now i want to do some serious running!!

I joined the harriers nearly 12 months ago and not only has it helped my fitness it's really helped my mental health during these strange times. Getting out regularly and meeting up with people I've known for years and meeting new people for a run has been really beneficial. I think John and Powelly have done a great job getting this going. Hopefully it continues to grow and grow.

The Marsh Lane Harriers have helped me and my girlfriend massively with our running. At first we got on board just to help our fitness but that soon developed into a love for running and even more so, a love for our friends and the MLH community as a whole. We went from never running at all, to now running almost every day and proud to be a part of such an amazing gang of people.

Unbelievable club to be a part of, nothing but support from everyone involved. You’ll make a lot of new mates while helping each other reach goals you never believed you could.

I've been running since 2015, since then & even as a kid I never wanted to get involved with running clubs. My own preconception was a bit of an Elitist environment, running snobs & cliquey, reinforced by the attitude of lads I knew as a kid who were decent runners. Also since 2015, I know a few lads who went out with some triathlon clubs & local running clubs and advised me that they were very cliquey, nobody would make an effort to welcome you & generally a bit up themselves. Also the training sessions can be based around the needs of one or two individuals. Although obviously I can make my own mind up I do trust the judgement of my mates. Anyway a lad I know, Chris, messaged me to say John Carra & Powelly had started up MLH & were doing sessions at Chaffers & weekend club runs etc. I decided to go down & take my kids too (who were nervous about the same snobbery I used to hate) & it was & is great. Powelly came over to say hello etc, no egos, no clique, no snobs, just decent people, different levels of runners all there to improve mental and physical health & train. You soon get to know everyone & even sooner you won't be able to run anywhere without another Harrier seeing you out. The club caters for all levels of runners, all ages & all distances from track work to ultra, race days & charity events. Go and try other running clubs & then try the Marsh Lane Harriers.

Since joining the Marsh Lane Harriers in September 2020, my running has improved no end, with my sights now set on a sub 3hr marathon at London 2021. I have said before that the Marsh Lane Harriers is like a motivation station, the lads and girls all share one goal which is to make ourselves better, we have a such a wide range of experience and ability but the support we show one another is constant.

Running has had such a positive effect on both my physical and mental health over the course of the past 7 months. The Marsh lane harriers is such a fantastic local running club and it fills me with pride being a part of the team, it is without a doubt the best club I’ve ever got involved with. A personal highlight for me, was running my first full marathon in December 2020 with a great group of lads, without the help and support of the club this wouldn’t have been possible. 127 miles – Leeds to Liverpool Canal – Done!

A superb team effort from the boys taking on the extreme challenge of running the length of the Leeds - Liverpool Canal from Thursday June 10th to Saturday June 12th. This was a phenomenal effort on a tough fundraising event and their efforts raised thousands towards the restoration of the club’s running track in Rimrose Valley. A few injuries along the way but a lifetime of memories. Well done all who took part - you should be immensely proud of your achievements.

96 Charity Event – Chaffers Running Track

A sea of red and blue took over the running track on Saturday 22nd May. The annual Run for the 96 was a little different this year due to Covid restrictions but a superb turnout out the Marsh Lane Harriers track gave the event the colour and energy it deserves. Well done to all the team involved in organising the event and thank you to every one who took part.

Community comes together to raise £50,000

John Carragher and Michael Powell  raised more than £50,000 to go towards refurbishing the running track at Rimrose Valley. John and Michael took on a test of physical and mental endurance by running four miles every four hours for seven days - a total of 168 miles. It ended with tired bodies and minds but an immense amount of pride and an exceptional amount of money raised by John and Michael  during the event which started on Friday 23rd April at 8pm and finished at 4pm on Friday 30th April. The community really came to the fore to support the boys on this extraordinary challenge with many runners joining on each leg of the challenge to help with motivation and encouragement. Local celebrities also turned out in force at different times of the week. These included John’s brother, former Liverpool footballer turned Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher (pictured) and another past red, Stephen Warnock who is also a member of the Marsh Lane Harriers with some big personal running goals himself this year.  Robbie Fowler surprised the team by turning up to a midnight run, while boxer Callum Smith, MMA fighter Paddy ’The Baddy’ Pimblett and former Everton midfielder Jose Baxter also joined runs to show their support for the cause. Chairman John Carragher said: “We are delighted to hit our £50k target but the work is only starting now as we will do everything we can to fully restore the running track and provide exceptional facilities for everyone to use. “It was a really tough challenge to keep going every 4 hours but to know we had the support of everyone in the community -  and we could see how much money we were raising - really kept us motivated and energised. Club Coach Michael Powell said: “We are absolutely blown away by the support. We can see the track becoming even more important this summer as the lockdown restrictions are eased and to know that we are in a position to keep improving the facilities makes us very proud. "We were thrilled with how many people came out to support us on each run. It was crazy really that people would get out of bed to come along to do 4 miles at 4am. It really kept us going and I don’t think we could have done it without this amazing support.” Donations are still being accepted as plans continue for the development of the area.
