About us

Marsh Lane Harriers is a community running club in North Liverpool that began in August 2019 when a small group of friends were training for the Florence marathon in Italy. From what started with just five members has grown swiftly to more than 200 members and counting.

So far the journey has shown the huge benefits that running can bring to mental and physical health in what has been a difficult time for the whole country through the Covid-19 pandemic. Added to this the community spirit that has been shown in helping to restore Chaffers running track in Rimrose Valley is both impressive and heart-warming – attributes that bode well for the future of the MLH and the wider community.

Join us and become part of what we believe to be the greatest running club in the world.

  • Affiliated running club with England Athletics

The club took on a new direction with increased purpose as Coach Powell joins the team and brings structured sessions to the MLH.
  • Track restoration June 2020
The team continues to grow and a community effort starts the restoration of the abandoned track at Rimrose Valley.
  • Event takeover December 2020
The Harriers presence is felt at December's running events and the turnout is phenomenal. Aintree and Oulton Park see many members setting personal bests as the iconic grey shirts dominate the running landscape.

England Athletics officially recognise Marsh Lane Harriers and affiliate the club.
  • Membership booming February 2021
200 membership mark is hit. The growth shows no sign of slowing down.
  • £50,000 raised April 2021
Following the 447 challenge, by John and Michael, the magic £50k figure was hit. A new running track and floodlights can be installed at the Chaffers running track.
  • 250 Members May 2021
The Marsh Lane Harriers hit 250 members. During May 2021 many of the team - old and new - smashed personal records at the Aintree running event.
  • Track resurfaced June 2021
The newly laid track proves instantly popular. No more muddy track runs on the immaculate new surface. A big thanks to all who helped raise the funds for this project.
  • Lines painted August 2021
Get in lane! Pristine white lines are painted on the track. It’s amazing how far this track has come in a few years.
  • Floodlights installed March 2022
One of the biggest additions to the track is the installation of 10 floodlights. This allows us to train all year round and evening sessions are now in a safe and secure environment.
  • Coaching plans December 2023
Marsh Lane Harriers launch in house coaching plans available for all members, available to newcomers and seasoned long-distance runners alike.
