What a perfomance from young Jude!

Eight year old Jude Bretherton ran 2.2 miles, every 2 hours for 24 hours on Good Friday and Easter Saturday.

Jude raised just over £1500 towards the restoration of the Chaffers running track at Rimrose Valley.

The 24 hour event started on Good Friday, April 2nd, at 4pm and finished just after 2pm on Easter Saturday with the total miles reaching 26.4 – more than a marathon.

Jude is a junior member of the Marsh Lane Harriers. Jude said: “Because of Covid all my sports have been stopped. Since joining the Harriers it’s become my new hobby and allowed me to enjoy a sport with my dad and make my own targets.

“I did this because the Harriers have supported me through this lockdown and I wanted to give them something back.”

Jude’s dad Graham Bretherton said: “We are so proud of everything Jude has achieved. The event was a tough task for him – and me – but he was so determined to get it done and the immense support he received from his family and the Harriers really helped to carry him through.

“Jude’s always been on the go and I didn’t want him losing that energy he has. He’s really surprised me with how he’s taken to running and proud is an understatement.

“The Harrier community and environment towards his running, along with massive support from the coach Michael Powell and Chairman John Carragher, has been key to him loving it so much.”

Marsh Lane Harriers coach Michael Powell said: “Everyone at the Harriers has been really impressed with Jude’s progress as a runner.  When he offered to help raise funds for the track we were thrilled. He’s done so well. To keep going every couple of hours is some achievement.

“The amount of money he raised is really fantastic and his family must be so proud of him. We are delighted to have such an impressive young man as part of the club.”
